Sexual assault is rooted in power and control. It is an umbrella term that encompasses sexual assault (forced penetration without consent), statutory rape, sexual harassment, and pressure to have sex or unsafe sex. Every 60 seconds a women is likely to get sexually assaulted in the US. In 2015 there were 6,311 sexual assaults in Michigan, this is a serious problem considering most sexual assaults go unreported. If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, they should get to a safe place and seek medical attention. They should try not to:
- Bathe, shower, or douche
- Brush teeth or gargle
- Change clothes
- Urinate
- Eat, drink, or smoke

Sexual Assault Facts for Teens:
- 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 6 boys is sexually assaulted before they reach adulthood.
- Date rape and acquaintance rape victims are most often between the ages of 15 and 19.
- Most people who commit rape appear to be well adjusted. They may even be well -liked and popular.
- Most rapes occur between people of the same race.
Sexual Assault Victims Are:
- 3 times more likely to suffer from depression
- 6 times more likely to suffer from PTSD
- 13 times more likely to abuse alcohol
- 26 times more likely to abuse drugs
- 4 times more likely to contemplate suicide
