In his close circle of family, friends, and colleagues, Nikhil Hemady is known as a prankster and a jokester—but as Chief Medical Officer of Honor Community Health, he’s known as the epitome of what you want in a clinician. He stays late when needed, travels for home visits, and always ensures his patients receive the highest level of care. His dedication to his role includes volunteering at local health fairs and offering labs, exams, and physicals to local schools, churches, and clinics. On top of his numerous national publications related to urgent care and emergency medicine, Nikhil also continues to share his knowledge and experience with students at Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Nikhil isn’t just a highly experienced and knowledgeable professional specializing in Family and Hospital Medicine—he’s the founder of Michigan’s first Federally Qualified Healthcare Center Teaching Health Center Program at Honor Community Health, located in Pontiac, Michigan. His breadth of experience comes from positions at North Oakland Medical Centers and the Doctor’s Hospital of Michigan/Oakland Physicians Medical Center. Crain’s Detroit Business named Dr. Hemady a 2025 Health Care Hero, citing him as a champion of transformative change who exemplifies what it means to care: blending science with empathy, accessibility with innovation, and policy with personal impact through his tireless efforts to improve the health and well-being of patients and communities.
