Honor Community Health’s Dr. Nikhil Hemady Named a Crain’s Detroit Healthcare Hero

We are proud to share that Dr. Nikhil Hemady, Chief Medical Officer at Honor Community Health, has been recognized as one of Crain’s Detroit Healthcare Heroes in the recent July 28 issue. This award honors healthcare leaders who are making a lasting difference in the health and well-being of our community.

Only 4.6% of family medicine residents train at community health centers even though nearly 10% of the U.S. population (32.5 million people) rely on these centers for primary care. That gap inspired Dr. Hemady to take action.

In 2023, he launched the nation’s first-ever residency program at a federally qualified health center, providing future physicians with hands-on experience in caring for underserved populations. Today, the program is already recruiting its third class of residents building a pipeline of dedicated providers committed to equity in healthcare.

Dr. Hemady’s leadership doesn’t stop there. Under his guidance, Honor has:

  • Introduced centering care programs for expectant parents, combining health assessments with group education.
  • Expanded medical services to support the homeless community in Pontiac.
  • Implemented technology innovations to connect with our patients like real-time appointment reminders and follow-up protocols, reducing patient no-shows and maintained platforms to ensure patients have access to care from the comfort of a space of their choosing.

This recognition reflects Dr. Hemady’s tireless commitment to advancing health equity and building stronger, healthier communities. At Honor Community Health, we are proud to have his vision and leadership shaping our mission every day.
